WORKING PRINCIPLE
of the URL-2M waste disposal unit
Unlike alternative technologies, you won't have to worry about disposing of phosphor or stuppa - our equipment for processing mercury-containing waste works on a different principle.
The operation is based on the identified relationship between temperature and mercury vapor pressure. The demercurization unit heats the lamps to a certain level, causing the mercury to evaporate and be pumped out by the vacuum system. The condensate collected on the surface of the low-temperature trap flows into a specially designed container.
The demercurized cullet is discharged by tilting the equipment chamber. The metallic mercury extracted using the URL-2M can be reused in production. (You can buy purified mercury by calling our office or submitting an application on the website).
The URL-2M waste disposal equipment effectively removes mercury not only from fluorescent lamps but also from used mercury devices, contaminated building materials, scrap metal, soil, sorbents, and metal amalgams. The URL-2M unit can also be successfully used as an advanced retort furnace for extracting gold from amalgam.

MAINTENANCE
The equipment should be cleaned of dirt and dust weekly. Periodically (at least once every six months) carry out preventive cleaning of the unit. To do this, heat the unit (without lamps) to a temperature of 250°C and keep it at this temperature for at least an hour, while simultaneously heating the external metal parts of the unit (up to the LTT inlet) with hot air (hair dryer).
Information about the operating procedure, technical maintenance and other data about the URL-2M unit can be obtained from our specialists. You can ask questions by email, phone, messengers or in the feedback form on the contacts page.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- By the method of protection against electric shock, the unit belongs to Class I electrical equipment according to GOST 12.2.007.0-75.
- The source of possible electric shock to the operator is the electrical equipment of the unit.
- To prevent electric shock, the unit must be reliably grounded by connecting a grounding conductor (bus) to the grounding bolt located inside the electrical cabinet of the unit. The minimum dimensions of the grounding conductor should be: when using insulated copper conductors 2.5 sq.mm., aluminum 4 sq.mm., when using uninsulated copper conductors 1.5 sq.mm., aluminum 2.5 sq.mm. The resistance between the grounding bolt and the unit body should not exceed 0.1 Ohm.
- The insulation resistance of the motor windings and chamber heater should be at least 0.5 MOhm.
- WARNING! The temperature excess of the chamber cover, its components, and the lower part of the high-vacuum pump housing in working condition over the ambient temperature can reach 100°C.
- The noise level at a distance of 1m from the unit is no more than 60 dB.
- The unit should be operated by 2 people per shift: shift supervisor and operator.
- Regarding safety, follow the Inter-Industry Rules on Labor Protection in the Production and Use of Mercury POT RM-009-99 (St. Petersburg 2001), "Rules for Technical Operation of Consumer Electrical Installations" and "Safety Rules for Operation of Consumer Electrical Installations", "Safety Rules for Working with Liquefied Gases", "Sanitary Rules for Working with Mercury, its Compounds and Devices with Mercury Filling", "Methodological Guidelines for Monitoring Current and Final Demercurization", Local Safety Instructions approved by the company management.
- Only persons who have valid certificates for safety qualification group not lower than III, trained in the Rules for Working with Liquefied Gases, are allowed to operate the unit. Personnel admission to work on the unit is formalized by order of the enterprise.
REQUIREMENTS
for the process room
- The unit should be operated in a room of at least 20 sq.m., equipped with autonomous exhaust ventilation, and supplied with 3×380V power, process water and a grounding circuit. In the absence of process water in the room, cooling of the working elements of the unit (pump and knife seal assembly) can be carried out using an autonomous closed cooling circuit based on a circulation pump and a water tank (1-2 m³). The recommended area of the process room is at least 20 sq.m.
- It is desirable to have a lamp warehouse with a capacity of up to 10,000 lamps near the process room. The process room should be adjacent to a staff room with lockers for work clothes and a shower room. Lockers for work clothes should be connected to the exhaust ventilation system.
- Unloading of demercurized glass cullet from the unit chamber is carried out by pouring out the cullet by tilting the chamber.
UNIT PREPARATION FOR OPERATION
- Place the unit on a hard horizontal surface and clean it from dust.
- The placement of the unit in the process room should provide safe and convenient access to it and a good view of the control panel. The distance from heat-emitting sources to the unit should be at least 2 m.
- Remove the cover of the electrical power cabinet, check the insulation resistance of the power phases (at least 0.5 MOhm) and ground the unit.
- Connect the unit to the power supply system. The correct phasing of the connected network is checked by briefly turning on (1-3 sec.) the fore-vacuum pump. The impeller of the pump motor should rotate in the direction of the arrow on the pump body. If necessary, swap two phases.
